WELL here it is Ladies and Germs - the very first blog of Chaos and Mayhem - A med students story
I might change the title to Kaos and Mayham, to reflect the artistically misspelt web address (its only called that because Chaos and Mayhem.com has already gone -but sssshh)
SO this is going to be my blog. I'm going to attempt to bully my long suffering clinical partner into also blogging on this page, and then hopefully we can get two views on the things we see.
THE primary aim for this blog is to act as a reference point for my family (hello family! while I'm on elective in Tanzania, but I thought in order to get a feel for this blogging lark I should start it a month or so prior to our departure, if only to act as a vent for the angst, worry, and general wibble (great word) that is, I was about to put will, that IS building up as we move towards ICE - our dreaded Intermediate Clinical Examinations. A chance to shine, revel in our own self righteous glory and generally be worshiped as we flow smoothly from patient to patient, deftly responding to our examiners questions and dazzling them with our prowess... or as it more likely the worst grilling of our lives, with a pass mark produced with gibbered, stilted answers, bound by the dribble that we expelled across our unfeeling examiners shoes as we beg, implore and grovel for that all releasing pass mark.
SO should I provide an introduction here? Proving in even thinking it that I already suffer from such grandiose delusions as to think that people who don’t know me will actually take the time to read this account, this great retelling (don’t compare yourself to Tolkien, stop, stop NOW!) this - story recital of the next few months of my life.
OK I will, I'm a 3rd year medic at Warwick Medical School (Oh the pain, the hardship! Was pink and fluffy sociology ever taught in such as aggressively excessive way as to have ever damaged the medical prospects of a collection of students before!). I'm part of, presently, a clinical partnership which is frequently, and affectionately (he thinks) referred to by the nursing staff as a Double Act, consisting of Chaos and Mayhem (and suddenly the naming of the blog is clear!)
Since leaving the HORRORS the the sociologically biased Phase I at the medical school, and heading to the wondrously medically and scientifically grounded realm of Phase II out in the hospitals, we (The royal WE, he's not even written anything yet, and he's being referred to as a "WE" he'll hate it) have had some truly MAGNIFICENT experiences and adventures, with the opportunity to observe and shadow some completely dedicated, skilled and intelligent practitioners. However it would be unfair of me to sit here and let you look at our experience through rose tinted glasses, so let me clarify suffice to say that there have been some practitioners who....were not!
Right I'll leave it there for now, and hopefully the next post will be from my - insert your own adjective - clinical partner.

I thought you were known as Lord Farkwar and the Gimp by most the nursing staff? That one may have escaped you.
